B·Debate and PEBC-IDIBELL organize 2nd edition of debate sessions on Epigenetics and Cancer

The sessions will be held on 1 and 2 October at CaixaForum Barcelona

15/06/2014

B·Debate and the Cancer Epigenetics and Biology Program (PEBC) at the Bellvitge Institute for Biomedical Research (IDIBELL) are organizing a debate series entitled “Barcelona Conference on Epigenetics and Cancer: 50 Years of Histone Acetylation” on 1 and 2 October 2014. The sessions will focus on an in-depth analysis of different aspects and possibilities, challenges, opportunities and future prospects of epigenetics and cancer with experts and leading researchers in this field.

This is the second edition of this series of conferences, promoted jointly by five benchmark research centers in Barcelona: IDIBELL, the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG), the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), the Molecular Biology Institute of Barcelona (IBMB) and the Institute of Predictive and Personalized Medicine of Cancer (IMPPC).

This year the event will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the paper published by V.G. Allfrey, R. Faulkner and A.E. Mirsky in PNAS, entitled “Acetylation and methylation of histones and their possible role in the regulation of RNA synthesis”, which played a seminal role in establishing the relationship between post-translational histone modifications and gene expression. Barcelona in particular has been one of the cities in Europe with the greatest concentration of research into histones and chromatin ever since.
