New York Academy of Sciences chooses Barcelona as location for conference on new challenges in cardiovascular health

The prestigious New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS), in conjunction with the “la Caixa” Welfare Projects and the International Center for Scientific Debate (ICSD), will hold an international conference entitled Evolving Challenges in Promoting Cardiovascular Health in Barcelona from 3 to 5 November 2011. The Scientific Director for the event is Dr. Valentí Fuster, director of the Zena and Michael Wiener Cardiovascular Institute, the Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Center for Cardiovascular Health at Mount Sinai Medical Center (New York) and the Carlos III National Center for Cardiovascular Research Foundation (Madrid).

Doctors, researchers (junior and senior) and companies working in the fields of cardiology, cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases, regenerative medicine, metabolic diseases, hematology and nutrition will deal with new challenges in promoting cardiovascular health in the fields of molecular biology, clinical research and public health.

The plenary sessions will focus on:

  • Arterial medicine (basic research)
  • Myocardial medicine (basic research) 
  • Development and regenerative medicine (basic research) 
  • Acute arterial disorders (basic research) 
  • Prevention of cardiovascular diseases (trends) 
  • Electromedicine (clinical research) 
  • Valve and aorta disorders (clinical research)

The agenda includes papers and discussions from more than twenty top-notch international experts, networking activities, a professional development session and a poster session.

Call for abstracts and posters

Young researchers, students and postdoctoral candidates have the opportunity to present their work during the Data Bliz Session (4 November at 4:40 pm). Anyone interested should send an abstract before 16 September 2001. For instructions, send an email to cardiovascular@nyas.org with “Abstract information” in the subject line.

The organizing committee will evaluate all abstracts and choose those to be included in the session.

Symposium "Heart: health and life"

3 November 2011, at 7pm, CosmoCaixa Barcelona

In addition to the scientific agenda, an awareness-raising event will also be held for the general public. This event will be led by Dr. Valentí Fuster, one of the top cardiologists in the world. After the introductory conference, four journalists specializing in health-related issues will participate in a round of questions to transfer the expert’s knowledge to participants.
