Cell therapies, regenerative medicine and tissue engineering provide therapeutic alternatives for diseases that are currently untreatable or for which existing treatment is ineffective. For the past six years, a group of scientists and professionals from hospitals, universities and research centers in Catalonia have been working to make these new treatments a reality in order to cure patients. This research is coordinated by the MuscleTech Network, a muscle and tendon knowledge network that was created to address problems with a global impact on society through medical research.

The results of their research on disease, disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system will be presented on 2 and 3 October in Barcelona at the fourth annual meeting of the network, entitled Research on Muscle and Tendon Injuries: from cell to community. The work sessions, which will include some one hundred doctors and scientists from around the world, are being held at the facilities of FC Barcelona, one of the organizations that supports MuscleTech along with the Leitat Technology Center, Egarsat, the Government of Catalonia Secretariat General for Sport and the Leo Messi Foundation. B·Debate (an initiative of Biocat and the "la Caixa" Foundation) was on the organizing committee of the first three editions, then under the brand International Center for Scientific Debate (ICSD).

Program

The sessions began this morning with an event featuring Dr. Jordi Monés, head of the FC Barcelona Medical Unit; Eusebi Cima, president of Leitat; Dr. Xavier Gassó, director of Healthcare Management at Egarsat, and Albert Marco, director of the Catalan Sports Council.
